白梅 (white ume-blossom)
「桜切る馬鹿、梅切らぬ馬鹿」。
寒さの盛りがすぎようかというころ、その愛らしい丸い花で真っ先に春を告げてくれる「梅」。冒頭のことばは、その梅と桜の手入れを対比させた云われです。
切り口が腐りやすい「桜」は切るとそこからすぐに枯れてしまいます。いっぽうの梅は、1年で1mも枝が伸びるといわれ、放っておくと枝が混み合い花と実のつきが悪くなるので、切った（剪定した）ほうが良い、という意味です。
「梅」の美しさの秘訣は、剪定されたその枝振りにあるんですね。
2月25日、梅の名所で知られる京都 北野天満宮では、ことしも「梅花祭」がおこなわれました。例年にない厳冬の影響で、さすがの梅も開花は遅れ気味だそう…。
3月になりました。厳しい寒さともやっとお別れ。何度体験しても、やっぱり春はワクワクしますね♪

For cherry-tree, it is shortly getting bad from its cutting-edge if you cut its branch, the other hand, for plum-tree is not good for the tree without cutting branch, because plum-tree grow so fast so they wouldn’t bloom and fruit well without prune a branch.
March started. Spring has come and say good-bye to Mr. chilly season, and we feel exciting every Spring at any age, don’t we?
