先日でかけた「東京スカイツリー」でみつけた「刺し子」のハンカチ。このきれいな紫色に一目惚れでした。
「刺し子」とは、刺繍の図柄のひとつをいいますが、そのはじまりは、北国で暮らす人々の知恵と工夫、暮らしを豊かにするために編み出されたものなのです。
かつて、津軽地方の農民の衣服ははいちねんを通して「紺麻」と決められていました。真冬に麻の着物…。北国の厳しい冬を乗り越えるため、麻の着物に綿糸を刺して暖かくする「刺し子」の技法が生まれたのです。
代表的な刺し子技法には、津軽の「こぎん刺し」，南部の「菱刺し」、庄内の「庄内刺し子」があり、これらが日本三大刺し子と言われています。
下の写真は「刺し子の風呂敷」。お弁当を包んだり、江戸時代から伝わる結び方によっては手提げになったりもします。そして不要なときには折り畳んでバックにポン！エコですね〜。

“a story of SASHIKO(a Japanese pattern”
I found a lovely handkerchief with SASHIKO patter as I went the much talked-about TOKYO SKY-TREE last week-end. SASHIKO is one of Japanese stitchwork. Its origin in wisdom and innovative idea of ancient Japanese, the story came from this. people in the Tsugaru region of Japan, very cold area, were not permitted to put on only linen cloths even in the winter. They created one method, which is to stitch crosswise with cotton needle over linen one, it became SASHIKO. the bottom pic is FUROSHIKI, it’s a cloth for wrapping things, with SASHIKO pattern. FUROSHIKI would be used for wrapping, and possible to double bake when no in use. it reduce our waste!!
